Mother Teresa’s Organization

Mother Teresa of Calcutta also known as St. Teresa, founded the Missionaries of Charity in the 1950s. This organization aimed to serve the poor and the marginalized communities. Mother along with her sisters, dedicated their lives to doing God's will, to love and care for the lonely, the abandoned, and the orphaned.

Including the Missionaries of Charity, numerous other homes and orphanages were founded by the Missionaries of Charity. Nirmala Shishu Bhavan is one such Mother Teresa organization. It is the very first orphanage founded by Mother Teresa and was built in 1955 in Kolkata and is operational to this day. It is run by the sisters of the MOC and caters especially to children.
