Activities of the Association of the Missionaries of Charity, in
India

While many are aware of the efforts made and the projects undertaken by the Missionaries
of Charity in Kolkata
, today we will focus on the activities of the MOC, on a national scale.
Mother Teresa of Calcutta established this congregation with the sole aim of selflessly
serving the poor, the sick, and the needy. Her charisma and devotion drew others towards
her and she began her mission with a group of 12 women, which has today grown into a
community of thousands of nuns all over the world.

These women, each belonging to diverse backgrounds and communities are all united with
the common goal of showing love and mercy to those in need and fulfilling God’s will.

Homes for the children

According to the accurate report that has been provided by the Missionaries of Charity
themselves, there are about 61 homes that have been built to care and provide for children
who are specially-abled and have been abandoned by their families or parents.
These children are adopted and taken in by the approval of the Child Welfare Committee of
India (CWC).

Efforts are made to provide education to the children and also to those children who are
inhabitants of slums or in areas where no schools exist.

This is just one aspect of the contribution of the MOC to society and the needy. Provisions
are also made for temporary night shelters for men and women, especially for the homeless
who deserve security and safety. There are several food centers where meals are provided
to those in need, alleviating hunger and suffering. Relief centers are present in most states
all over India to provide relief during natural disasters such as famine, floods, droughts, etc.

Nursing the destitute, the beggars, and the sick

Mother Teresa’s MOC has 180 homes in several states in India that care and provide for the
poorest of the poor, the sick, abandoned, destitute, dying destitute, especially abled adults
including both men and women. These homes specialize in catering to their needs and
providing them with medical facilities.

Homes have also been made specially for women in distress, those with AIDS, and those in
danger, provisions are also made for abandoned pregnant women. The security, comfort,
support, and stability of women are of utmost importance and these homes serve as a
haven for those living in abusive families, suffering from domestic abuse, negligence from
their family, violence, etc.

Conclusion

The activities that have been discussed here are a few of the services that the Missionaries
of Charity have been offering over the years. The numerous homes and centers which have
