The Missionaries of Charity; a Mother Teresa organization

It was Mother Teresa’s zeal and immense devotion to her mission which encouraged her to establish
the Missionaries of Charity. This organization of Mother Teresa served as an important instrument
to bring about social change and alleviate the suffering of the underprivileged. It was Mother&charisma and passion that attracted many women who shared the same vision as her and were
ready to dedicate themselves to the cause of serving the poor.

Numerous branches within the organization facilitate its smooth running and focus on different
aspects. One such branch is the Sick and Suffering Co-Workers, which was begun by Mother Teresa
in the 1950s. This was done to expand their mission of love and include those who have the zeal and
passion to serve but are unable to do so physically.

The Sick and Suffering Co-Workers of Mother Teresa
The members belonging to this branch of the Missionaries of Charity are individuals who are unable
to physically assist the sisters with their traditional services due to illness, age, or special abilities.
However, this does not mean that their contribution is not valued, they play a very important part in
this organization, and they offer their prayers and suffering in union with that of Christ. They do not
view their suffering as a curse and do not let their obstacles demotivate them from their mission.

They offer spiritual support and prayers for the sisters and the priests of the MOC, their contribution
is considered extremely valuable by the sisters, brothers, and priests who directly work with the
poor, sick, and dying. Sick and Suffering Co-Workers may be connected to the members such as the
sisters and priests individually, and they can offer prayers for them, for their success, well-being, and
spiritual guidance.
They often also take part in group activities such as group prayers, novenas, and other activities
arranged by the MOC. Their role was essential to Mother Teresa for she believed that anyone could
serve the poorest of the poor, regardless of their physical limitations and obstacles.

Conclusion
Mother Teresa used to refer to The Sick and Suffering Co-Workers as ‘second self’, which highlighted
how valuable their efforts and prayers were to both Mother Teresa's trust and the mission. This
branch of the Missionaries of Charity allows those who would like to contribute to the organization
but are held back due to their illnesses, giving them a strong purpose to align their services with
their vocation.

The Sick and Suffering Co-Workers are a living example of how despite having sufferings and
obstacles, we can still stay true to our vocation in life and contribute to acts of love and service.
