Mother Teresa of Calcutta , also known as St. Teresa, was a catholic missionary who established the religious organization of the Missionaries of Charity . Founded in the year 1950 by Mother along with her group of sisters, the MoC aimed to alleviate the sufferings of the poor and to tend to the orphaned, unwanted, abandoned, and lonely. What began as a humble effort to uplift the marginalized communities soon transformed into something bigger with numerous Mother Teresa organizations in many parts of Kolkata and India. Mother along with her sisters, dedicated their lives to doing God's will, to love and care for the lonely, the abandoned, and the orphaned. Including the Missionaries of Charity, numerous other homes and orphanages were founded by the Missionaries of Charity. Nirmala Shishu Bhavan is one such Mother Teresa organization. It is the very first orphanage founded by Mother Teresa and was built in 1955 in Kolkata and is operational to this day.
